Get the new season’s ladylike elegance

There is no need to introduce the subject further : this fall/winter, your mission will be to be creative in order to transform your style and eventually – with the help of the great pickings from the new fashion collections – become a chic and stylish yet modern… Lady.

Let us have a look at the collections which have been purchased by Parisian boutiques (boutiques which do not take exactly anything from the fashion shows, as the Parisienne has her very personal style vision …)

Even though there is this major ladylike attitude-leitmotiv, you will be happy to know that the 2011/12 F/W season offers a great variety of looks, built around the center pieces. The new silhouette is feminine, elongated (as always in Paris…), with lots of inspirations from the 1940/1950’s, but also the Seventies. There is no need to put too many effort on your global style as the femininity is visible on the details. It is a very subtle season, without the horrible mixes that have been done sometimes in the past and without the severe total looks in black or gray.

Contrary to other seasons, basics are now available in a greater color range: apart from the classic black, grey and even winter white tones, you will find other beautiful colors, such as red, aubergine, green and even coral.

Additionally, there are basics with lovely prints, such as polka dots, introduced in the 1940’s by Christian Dior, as well as leopard prints (very big this winter…) amongst python and floral or fantasy prints.

As for the central pieces of your fall/winter wardrobe and according to your mood, you will be wearing wonderful dresses and straight or slightly flared skirts as well as a great selection of various trousers in different shapes and again, leggings. As for the tights which are now available in many tones and textures, you are not obliged to wear high boots but you will be able to point out your legs with fabulous pumps…

To celebrate the new lady, there is one piece of your wardrobe which has become the highlight : the blouse. Manufactured in shiny satin or silky muslin fabric, these garments will enable you to transform an austere business attire into the most elegant silhouette. P

Blouses look beautiful when worn with a simple skirt and a belt to underline the waistline. They introduce a touch of femininity when worn with trousers or leggings. The new blouses, plain or with the new prints, are therefore very easy to wear whilst offering just a hint of glamour.

Before visiting all the boutiques and picking up some great findings to magnify your new style, fashion editors seem to agree in one major detail which has to be part of the new ladylike attitude and enhance your everyday life in a glamorous way : try to embellish your style with a precious note…

According to Vanessa Friedman, Financial Times’ celebrated fashion editor, this Hollywood inspired trend towards a jewellery inspired element on the wardrobe,  seems to originate from the fascination for Liz Taylor who had a passion for precious stones and who did not hesitate to wear them in her everyday life. And to follow to the steps of the so called Grande Mademoiselle: Coco Chanel wouldn’t mind wearing fake jewellery…we will certainly be able to play with this trend and showcase this precious detail… why not on the shoes.

To focus on the new accessories and especially bags, the selection is huge and contains large bags as well as small shoulder bags to wear over your outfit. Again, the color range is richer than usual and includes the classic black or neutral tones, but also several red tones, violet as well as leopard prints and crocodile style leather. Another great way to enhance your global style whilst simply playing with the new bags.

My advice before you start touring the boutiques : have a look at your closet and select carefully the pieces which seem to fit with the trends as well as all the garments which enhance your figure and complexion.

Adopt the transitional Fashion Attitude

As the F/W collections are now all displayed and seem to announce a great variety of fabulous looks, we are first of all focusing on the transitional season.  If you wonder how to be chic whilst moving from the hot summer season to the rather fresh autumn days, there is one major style trick: THINK cashmere.

Indeed, at the moment, this fibre seems clearly to be the most appropriate material to give you softness and style. It is certainly the best choice to start your winter acquisitions, as you will find a wonderful selection of fashionable AND timeless cashmere pieces. Apart from legendary cashmere houses such as ERIC BOMPARD, The French specialist, most fashion brands brought on the market this winter a few items in cashmere which can be paired with almost everything.

Nevertheless, if you are not a cashmere fan, there are alternatives which offer the same comfort, made in wool or viscose fibres.

Apart from the smooth texture, cashmere pieces offer multiple, fashionable style options, especially regarding the transition season: whether you wear a light dress, a summer skirt, trousers or leggings, a delicated cashmere cardigan will provide you with the perfect sensation of softness. And you will surely embody the new season’s fashion attitude which is all about layering.

Over your cardigan, a small belt twill give you the ultimate ladylike chic, which is the fall/winter 2011/12 fashion attitude.

The new collections of cashmere cardigans, tuniques or sweaters, are delicate, sometimes enriched with beautiful embroidery work or lace. They follow the body line, be they short, mid-long or tunique-long, a great way to cover hips and lengthen the silhouette optically.

The color range is larger than usual and offers a great variety of soft, neutral and even strong tones, to fit into your current wardrobe and match your sun tanned complexion.

And last but not least, to suggest another very interesting way to carry your little cashmere item : when travelling, be it in airplanes or trains where the air conditioning is always too strong, a warm and smooth cashmere cardigan will be more than welcome and make sure that you keep looking stylish. And as a piece of knitwear, once you wish to put it into your suitcase again (or even a light travel bag), you can be sure that it will keep its shape and never wrinkle, not even after a long journey.

NB Please not that we will soon publish an article with a selection of great places and websites where you can purchase fantastic clothes at very good prices.

The new t-shirts and how to wear them

T-shirts are just so incredibly easy pieces to wear when travelling around or during a casual outing. And in the summer, they are fabulous as their jersey fabric fits perfectly and has some extra allowance when the silhouette changes, thanks to its elasticity. This summer offers a rather wide selection of t-shirts: long tunique-like shirts to cover large hips, t-shirts with smart details such as embroidery or nice drapes, simple tops decorated with lace to mention a few.

Printed t-shirts are particularly trendy this summer. They add a funny touch to a very basic silhouette and are mostly worn over jeans and with a tailored blazer to give more shape; Paired with flag sandals or high heeled patent leather pumps, this is a sexy and casual spring/summer look. It must be said also that this very Parisian allure is quite ageless as it is seen in the city on teenager AND their mothers.

As an additional advantage, these t-shirts are available in almost every type of store, from souvenir shops to high end luxury brands, to suit all budget and brand preferences.

Fashion nostalgia

What is is that makes us regularly dream of past periods ?  Even though fashion trends are always somewhere connected to a historic, particular style or shape, sometimes the trends are so strongly imitated that one cannot tell if the garment which looks so much like a classic, is a vintage piece or an interpretation from a previous style.

As an exemple, the (new?) wonderful dresses which are very present this summer: for those of you who are fans of the passionate Italian movies from the 60’s, with glamorous actresses such as Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale or Gina Lollobrigida (pictured), the dresses with tight bodies and full skirts are just the perfect item to celebrate this style. Visually, they underline the bust and emphasize the waistline.

This shape is very interesting for ladies trying to look slimmer: indeed, a recent study pointed out that an important difference between waistline and hips makes the silhouette look thinner!

As an additional advantage, these dresses which are available in light cotton fabrics or silk, are very feminine yet comfortable and airy during a hot summer day. To make them look even more nostalgic, you might drape a light shawl around your shoulders or add a light knitted cardigan. And of course, the matching makeup which gives the final touch, requires a strong eyeliner and long lashes… a tricky task that we are going to teach you soon with the help of our makeup specialist Dany Laban.
